Features Of The Visa:
This visa allows skilled workers who do not meet the point test for the skilled – independent visa to apply for permanent residency through state and territory nomination.
This permanent visa category is assessed against the applicant’s skills and requires the nomination from a state or territory (NSW, Victoria, SA, NT, QLD, WA, ACT).
The offshore Skilled – Sponsored Subclass 176 visa and the onshore Subclass 886 visa has been replaced by the Skilled Nominated Subclass 190 visa.
This points based visa is for skilled workers. You must be nominated by an Australian state or territory. You can live and work permanently anywhere in Australia and your family members can be included in the application.
Who Is Eligible ForSkilled Nominated Visa (SUBCLASS 190)?
The visa is for skilled workers who are currently in or outside Australia ((NSW, Victoria, SA, NT, QLD, WA, ACT)) who satisfy the point test. Applications are by invitation only and an intended applicant must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) and have a suitable skills assessment for that occupation. The applicant will also require an approved nomination from the state or territory government.
You might be eligible to apply for this visa if you were invited. When we sent your letter of invitation, you must also have:
- nominated an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list
- obtained a suitable skills assessment for
- not yet turned 50 years of age
- achieved the score specified in your letter of invitation based on the factors in the points test
- at least competent
- been nominated by an Australian state or territory government agency.
Eligiblity Criteria For Nominated Skilled Visa (SUBCLASS 190)
Your sponsor must be a State or Territory government (NSW, Victoria, SA, NT, QLD, WA, ACT). The visa is assessed on a points basis with 60 points required to qualify in addition to meeting the standard conditions.

Application Process For Skilled Nominated Visa (SUBCLASS 190)
- Lodge an EOI and be invited to apply
- Be nominated by a State or Territory Government
- Meet the pass mark in the skilled migration points test – currently 60.
- Be aged between 18 and 49 inclusive
- Pass Skills Assessment in an occupation on the relevant Skilled Occupations List
- Have Competent English or higher
- Meet health and character requirements
You can either be in Australia or overseas when you apply for a Subclass 190 Visa. In order to lodge from within Australia, you would need to hold a substantive visa or a Bridging A, B or C visa. Once you apply from within Australia, you would receive a bridging visa allowing you to remain in Australia during processing of your visa application.
Application Process For Skilled Nominated Visa (SUBCLASS 190)
This is a permanent residence visa. It lets you and any family members who have also been granted this visa to:
- stay in Australia indefinitely
- work and study in Australia
- enrol in Medicare, Australia’s scheme for health-related care and expenses
- apply for Australian citizenship (if you are
- sponsor eligible relatives for permanent residence
- travel to and from Australia for five years from the date the visa is granted (after that time, you will need a resident return visa or another visa to return to
You can also access certain social security payments (subject to waiting periods).
